경북대학교는 교육부와 한국연구재단이 주관하는 ‘4단계 BK21 대학원혁신지원사업 연차평가’ 예비 결과에서 ‘우수대학’에 선정됐다. 이번 선정으로 경북대는 2020년 사업 1차년도부터 5차년도까지 5년 연속 ‘우수대학’으로 선정되는 성과를 거뒀다.

4단계 BK21사업은 전 학문분야에 걸친 석·박사급 인재양성과 연구중심대학 육성을 위한 대학원 혁신을 지원하는 대규모 재정지원사업이다. 이 사업의 일환인 대학원혁신지원사업은 세계적 수준의 연구중심대학 육성을 위해 대학원 체제 개편, 대학원 교육 개선, 연구 환경 및 질 개선, 대학원 국제 경쟁력 강화 등을 중점적으로 지원한다.

경북대는 ‘미래 혁신을 주도하는 세계 수준의 연구중심대학’을 비전으로, 16대 전략과제에 154개의 세부 프로그램을 추진 중이며, 특히 5차년도에는 융합교육, 연구 질 제고, 국제화 강화 등에 집중 투자했다.

이번 우수대학 선정으로 경북대는 총 90억 원 규모의 2025년도 사업비와 함께 추가 인센티브를 확보해 AI 연구 인프라 강화, 국제화 프로그램 확대 등 대학원혁신 관련 사업을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

허영우 경북대 총장은 “대형국책사업에서 5년 연속 우수대학으로 평가받은 것은, 연구중심대학으로 도약하기 위한 경북대의 노력을 인정받은 것이다. 앞으로 글로컬대학30 사업과 대학원혁신지원사업을 연계해 석·박사급 인재 양성과 교육·연구 경쟁력 강화를 위한 기반을 더욱 공고히 해나가겠다.”라고 밝혔다.

이번 평가 결과는 오는 11일까지 이의신청 절차를 거쳐 최종 확정될 예정이다.

Kyungpook National University Selected as Excellent University for 5 Consecutive Years in Graduate Innovation Support Project Annual Evaluations

Kyungpook National University (KNU) was selected as an "Excellent University" in the preliminary results of the Fourth-Stage BK21 Graduate Innovation Support Project Annual Evaluations organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Research Foundation. With this selection, KNU marks its fifth consecutive year to be designated as an "Excellent University," beginning from the first year of the project in 2020.

The Fourth Stage BK21 Project is a large-scale financial support initiative that supports graduate innovation to foster not only master’s and doctoral level talent, but also research-oriented universities across all academic fields. The graduate innovation support part of the project focuses on reforming graduate programs, improving graduate education, enhancing research environments and research quality, and strengthening the international competitiveness of graduate schools to foster world-class research-oriented universities.

With the vision of becoming a "World-Class Research-Oriented University Leading Future Innovation," KNU is currently promoting 154 detailed programs across 16 strategic tasks. In particular, in the most recent fifth year of the project, KNU has invested heavily in convergence education, the improvement of research quality, and the strengthening of internationalization.

With this selection an an “Excellent University,” KNU plans to continue expanding graduate innovation-related projects, such as strengthening AI research infrastructures and expanding international programs by securing a total of 9 billion won along with additional incentives in 2025.

Young-Woo Heo, the KNU president, remarked, "The fact that we have been evaluated as an excellent university for five consecutive years in such a large-scale national policy project indicates that our efforts to become a research-oriented university have been recognized. Going forward, we will further solidify the foundation for fostering master's and doctoral-level talent and strengthening our education and research competitiveness by linking this graduate innovation support project with the Glocal University 30 Project.“

The evaluation results will be finalized by the 11th, following a period for objections and appeals.
