5년간 1,630억 원 투입해 D5 미래산업 선도 인재 양성과 지역 정주 생태계 구축

경북대학교는 대구시 ‘지역혁신중심 대학지원체계(이하 RISE) 사업’ 발대식을 7월 15일 경북대 글로벌플라자 경하홀에서 열고, 본격적으로 사업 추진에 돌입했다. 이날 행사에는 허영우 경북대 총장을 비롯해 박양호 대구정책연구원장, 김한식 대구테크노파크원장 등이 참석했다.

RISE 사업은 교육부가 대학 재정지원 권한을 지자체에 이관하고, 지자체는 지역 특성과 발전 전략에 맞춰 대학 혁신을 지원해 지역과 대학의 동반 성장을 도모한다. 경북대는 이번 대구 RISE 사업에서 16개 단위과제(주관 15, 참여 1)를 수행한다. 사업비 규모는 5년간 1,630억 원에 달하며, 이는 전국 최대 규모 사업비다.

경북대는 이번 사업으로 ▷대구형 혁신 교육 생태계 구축 ▷D5 미래산업 선도인재 양성 ▷취·창업 중심 산학협력 플랫폼 구축 ▷청년 인재 정착과 지역사회 기반 구축 등 4개 핵심 프로젝트를 추진한다. 경북대는 이를 통해 대구시가 역점 육성하는 5대 미래 신산업(D5, 미래모빌리티·로봇·헬스케어·반도체·ABB)의 성장을 견인하고, 지역 인재 양성과 취업·창업·정주로 이어지는 선순환 생태계를 구축한다는 계획이다.

허영우 총장은 “RISE 사업은 경북대의 역할과 방향성을 재정립할 수 있는 매우 중요한 기회이며, 대학 스스로가 지역혁신의 거점이 되어야 한다는 새로운 사회적 책임을 부여받는 일이다. 경북대는 이번 사업을 통해 지역혁신 생태계의 허브로서 지역과 대학의 동반성장을 주도해 나가도록 하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.

KNU Holds Launch Ceremony for ‘Daegu RISE Project,’ Signaling Full-Fledged Start to Regional Innovation
Investment of 163 billion won over five years to cultivate leading talent in D5 future industries and establish a local residential ecosystem

Kyungpook National University (KNU) held a launch ceremony for Daegu City's Regional Innovation System & Education Project (hereafter RISE Project) at KNU Global Plaza’s Gyeongha Hall on July 15, where it began promoting the project in earnest. The event was attended by Young-Woo Heo, President of KNU, Yang-ho Park, President of Daegu Policy Institute, and Han-sik Kim, Director of Daegu Techno Park.

For the RISE Project, the Ministry of Education transfers the authority to provide financial support to universities to local governments, which then are able to support university innovation more in line with regional characteristics and development strategies to promote the mutual growth of both their respective regions and local universities. KNU will carry out 16 ‘unit tasks,’ 15 of which it will directly supervise, while participating in 1. Total funding for the RISE Project amounts to 163 billion won over five years, representing the largest project funding amount in the country.

For the RISE Project, KNU will implement four key initiatives: ▷ establishing an innovation education ecosystem customized to Daegu, ▷ fostering future industry leaders, ▷ establishing an industry-academic cooperation platform centered on job creation and start-ups, and ▷ establishing a foundation for the settlement of young talent and a local community base. Through these initiatives, KNU plans to drive the growth of the five, or so-called ‘D5,’ future new industries (i.e., Future Mobility, Robotics, Healthcare, Semiconductors, and ABB) that Daegu City is currently focusing on, and build a virtuous cycle ecosystem that leads to the fostering of local talent, employment, start-ups, and the settlement of talent in local areas.

KNU President Young-Woo Heo remarked, "The RISE Project represents a very important opportunity to redefine the role and direction of KNU, given its new social responsibility that the university itself should serve as a base for regional innovation. Through the RISE Project, KNU will therefore lead the shared growth of both the region and the university as a hub for the regional innovation ecosystem."
