경북대학교는 ‘지자체-대학 협력기반 지역혁신사업(이하 RIS 사업)’의 추진을 위한 ‘대구경북 지역혁신플랫폼 출범식’을 28일 경북대 글로벌플라자 효석홀에서 개최했다.

이날 출범식에는 장상윤 교육부 차관을 비롯해 대구시 경제부시장, 경북도 경제부지사, 경북대·영남대 총장 등 23개 참여대학 총장·부총장을 비롯해 교육청, 참여기관 및 기업 등이 참석했다.

‘RIS 사업’은 교육부가 지자체와 대학 등 지역의 다양한 지역혁신 주체들이 ‘지역혁신 플랫폼’을 구축해 지역혁신을 추진하도록 지원하는 사업이다. 경북대가 총괄대학으로 참여하는 ‘대구경북 지역혁신 플랫폼’은 지난 5월 RIS 사업에 최종 선정됐다.

‘대구경북 지역혁신 플랫폼’은 대구시와 경북도가 함께 참여하는 복수형 플랫폼으로, 총괄대학인 경북대와 중심대학인 영남대를 비롯한 23개 대학, 14개 지역 혁신기관과 연구소, 200여개의 지역 기업들이 참여한다.

앞으로 1차년도 572억원(지방비 30% 포함)을 포함, 최대 5년간 3,316억원을 투입해 핵심분야로 정한 ‘전자정보기기’와 ‘미래차전환부품’을 중심으로 교육체계 개편 및 지역혁신기관과의 협업 과제 수행을 통해 대구경북 인재양성 및 성장동력 선순환 생태계 조성을 목표로 사업을 추진한다.

이를 위해 △대구경북혁신대학(DGM) 설립·운영 △대학 간 공동학과 신설·운영 △현장·공유캠퍼스 운영 △메타 캠퍼스 운영 등 대학교육혁신 추진과 함께, △기업 맞춤형 인재 양성 △혁신 기술·제품 개발 △기업 경쟁력 강화 및 지원 등 핵심분야별 과제를 추진할 계획이다. 특히 대학 간 자원 공유 기반으로 설립하는 대구경북혁신대학을 통해 지역혁신을 선도할 핵심인재를 연간 1,100여명을 양성할 예정이다.

홍원화 경북대 총장은 “강력한 대학교육혁신을 통해 혁신인재를 양성하여 지역에 정착시키고, 핵심분야인 전자정보기기와 미래차전환부품 분야의 선도기술 개발과 관련 기업의 혁신성장 생태계를 조성하여 지역의 위기를 극복하고 다시 도약할 수 있는 계기가 될 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 다하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.

KNU Hosts Launch Ceremony for ‘Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Innovation Platform’

Kyungpook National University held a launch ceremony for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Innovation Platform at the KNU Global Plaza Hyoseok Hall on August 28th to promote the new Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project’ (hereafter RIS Project).

The launch ceremony was attended by Sang-yoon Jang, Vice Minister of Education, along with the Daegu City Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, the North Gyeongsang Province Vice Governor for Economic Planning, and the presidents and vice presidents of 23 participating universities, including the presidents of Kyungpook National University and Yeungnam University, as well as other participating educational organizations and companies.

The RIS Project is supported by the Ministry of Education to promote regional innovation by the establishment of a regional innovation platform by various regional innovation actors such as local governments and universities. The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Innovation Platform, in which Kyungpook University participates as the head university, was selected as a finalist for the RIS Project last May.

The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Innovation Platform is a cooperative platform in which Daegu City and North Gyeongsang Province participate together. In total, 23 universities, including Kyungpook National University as the head university and Yeongnam University as the central university, 14 regional innovation institutes and research institutes, and 200 local companies will participate.

A total of 331.6 billion KRW will be invested for up to five years, including a first-year investment of 57.2 billion KRW (including 30% of local expenses). The investment will be used to reorganize the education system, focusing on electronic information devices and future car conversion parts as the core areas. The Project will be carried out with the primary aims of cultivating expertise in Daegu City and North Gyeongsang Province and creating a virtuous circle of growth engines by reorganizing the education system and collaborating with local innovation institutions.

To this end, the Project plans to promote innovation in university education, such as 1) establishing and operating the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Multiversity (DGM), 2) establishing and operating joint departments between universities, 3) operating shared campus facilities, and 4) operating metaverse campuses. The Project will also promote core area initiatives, including 1) business-oriented talent training, 2) the development of innovative technologies and products, and 3) the support and strengthening of corporate competitiveness. In particular, the DGM, which will be established based on the sharing of resources among universities, will train more than 1,100 core talent individuals per year to lead regional innovation.

Won-hwa Hong, President of Kyungpook National University, noted, “We will do our best to train innovative talent in the region through strong university education innovation, develop leading technologies in the fields of electronic information devices and future car conversion parts, and create an innovative growth ecosystem for relevant companies.”
