경북대학교는 개교 77주년을 맞아 19일 오후 2시 경북대 글로벌플라자 2층 효석홀에서 ‘개교 제77주년 기념식 및 미래발전선포식’을 개최했다. 이날 기념식에는 강은희 대구시 교육감, 박판우 대구교육대 총장, 김종환 대구시 행정부시장, 이달희 경북도 경제부지사, 강영석 상주시장을 비롯해 학생과 교수, 교직원, 동문, 내외빈 등 500여명이 참석했다.

미래발전선포식은 개교 77주년을 맞은 경북대의 발전상을 돌아보고 ▷융복합 인재 및 첨단·디지털 혁신 인재 양성 ▷기초학문에 대한 포용 ▷탄소중립 실현 등 지역사회와 인류를 위한 공헌 ▷지역 기업과 기관들과의 동행 ▷세계수준의 연구중심대학 도약을 키워드로 미래 발전 방향을 제시했다.

앞서 열린 개교 77주년 기념식에는 경북대 발전에 기여한 기관에 대한 감사패 전달과 함께 심리학과 진영선 교수 등 교직원(35년 근속 15명, 25년 근속 27명, 15년 근속 54명)에게 근속 표창을, 직원 20명에게 공로상을 수여했다. 그밖에 경북대 우수강의상, 경북대 학술상과 원암학술상, Highly Cited Researcher Award, 총동창회장상 등의 시상이 진행됐다.

홍원화 경북대 총장은 기념사를 통해 “경북대의 역사는 우리 모두의 땀과 노력으로 만들어온 소중한 자산이다. 우리의 소중한 자산을 밑거름으로 이제 우리는, 새롭게 도약해야 한다. 우리는 역사적 대전환의 중심에 서 있다. 경북대가 이룩해 갈 새로운 100년을 기약하며 함께 각오를 다지고, 경북대의 미래를 위해 힘차게 앞으로 나아가자.”라고 밝혔다.

경북대는 1946년 국립대학으로 승격된 대구사범대학, 대구의과대학, 대구농과대학 등 3개 대학을 합쳐 1951년 국립종합대학교로 개편됐다. 올해 개교 77주년을 맞이한 경북대는 17개 단과대학, 3개 학부, 일반대학원, 2개 전문대학원, 12개 특수대학원을 비롯해 지원·부속시설 48개 기관, 137개 연구소 등을 포함하는 대학으로 성장했다.

KNU 77th Anniversary and Future Development Declaration Ceremonies

Kyungpook National University (KNU) held its ‘77th Anniversary Ceremony’ and ‘Future Development Declaration Ceremony’ to mark the 77th anniversary of the university. The commemorative ceremonies were held on May 19 and were attended by around 500 people, including students, professors, faculty, alumni, and guests, including the Superintendent of Daegu, KANG Eun-hee; the President of the Daegu University of Education, PARK Pan-woo; the Administrative Vice-Mayor of Daegu, KIM Jong-hwan; the Economic Vice Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, LEE Dal-hee; and the Mayor of Sangju, KANG Yeong-seok.

The Future Development Declaration Ceremony took a look back on the development of KNU leading up to its 77th anniversary, with a focus on 1) fostering convergence, high-tech, and digital innovation talent; 2) embracing basic studies; 3) contribution to the local community and humanity in general, such as through realizing carbon neutrality; 4) local companies and institutions, and 5) regarding the direction of future development, the keyword of leaping forward to become a world-class research-oriented university was proposed.

At the anniversary ceremony, along with the presentation of appreciation plaques to organizations that have long contributed to the development of KNU, Professor Jin Yeong-seon of the Department of Psychology and other faculty members (15 who have served for 35 years, 27 who have served for 25 years, and 54 who have served for 15 years) were presented with awards for continuous service, and 20 other employees were presented with various achievement awards. In addition to those, other awards such as the KNU Excellent Teaching Award, KNU Academic Award, Wonam Academic Award, Highly Cited Researcher Award, and General Alumni President Award were presented to the respective recipients.

In his commemorative address, KNU President HONG Won-hwa noted, “The history of KNU is a precious asset created from the blood, sweat, and tears of all of us. Based on our precious asset, we now have to take a new leap forward. We stand at the center of a great historical transition. As we commit to the next 100 years of KNU achievements, lets resolve to work together and vigorously move forward for the future of KNU.”

After the three colleges of Daegu Normal College, Daegu Medical College, and Daegu Agricultural College were promoted to the status of national universities in 1946, they were combined in 1951 into a single national university, KNU. As it celebrates its 77th anniversary this year, KNU has grown into a university that includes 17 colleges, 3 schools, a general graduate school, 2 professional graduate schools, and 12 special graduate schools, as well as 48 supporting and affiliated institutions, and 137 research institutes.
